Cali

So I'm visiting (normally) sunny San Diego this weekend (except that it's 64 degrees and overcast...apparently the atmosphere didn't get the memo that "June Gloom" should've ended by now...rude). The main event of the trip is a family reunion, with about 70 of my closest family members. Details and pics on that later, but I wanted to show you what my alarm clock looks like in California:

This is Levi, my brother's year old lab who comes bounding into my room at about 7am. He has no qualms about getting right up in my face to snuggle and play. Very different than the iPhone alarm I'm used to in Dallas...

And then later in the day....

Levi was literally snoring on my parents' bed while I was drying my hair. Bailey is totally up in heaven saying "Dude, I NEVER got to do that!"

17.2"

Yet another negative PR snafu for Southwest Airlines this week when they allowed a standby passenger to purchase a ticket on a Sacramento to Las Vegas flight, only to make her de-plane as soon as she was settled.

Why did they revoke her spot? Because a late arriving passenger, who'd booked a ticket in advance, required two seats, due to his/her size.

Now, I am glad that Southwest made the late arriving passenger take two seats. Nothing gets me more fired up than when I am stuck next to someone who can't put the armrest down and/or is impeding on my precious 17.2". If you need more space, you better hand me some dinero, because I paid for every bit of that seat!

However, (the article does not state this so I'm not sure) I hope they made the late arriving passenger (who, by the way, is 14) pay for that second seat. Because if they made the standby passenger vacate the seat, and then didn't charge the larger passenger for the second seat, that makes me angry. You don't get to have double the space for half the price just because you're big! If you take up that room, you better pay for it.

Also, if the passenger is late and everyone on the plane is already seated, I think it's ridiculous to a) delay the plane, therefore inconveniencing all of the passengers and possibly passengers scheduled on the next flight on that plane and b) embarrass not only the standby passenger but the teen who has to come onto the plane when everyone clearly realizes he/she is not only taking the seat he/she paid for, but forced off another passenger.

Maybe I'm being pessimistic or overly simplifying or being insensitive, but I truly can't believe that a problem with a relatively simple fix (obesity) is becoming such a pervasive part of our country. When are people going to admit that the size of the airline seats or how the airline "handled" the issue aren't the problem?

Rude.

This is what happens when MTrizzle and Cuz get together and start plotting against me at the bar. Rude.

My favorite Anniversary....

Other than my birthday and Thanksgiving, this week is my favorite of the year....It's the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

The newest fall fashions at great prices. What could be better?! Now, it is a little odd trying on sweaters and boots when it's a sweltering 102 degrees outside (BestMomEver, if I hear you tell me it's "hot" in California one more time....) but I truly love it. And while I put myself on a tighter budget than usual this year, I still made some PHENOMENAL purchases!

(Nordstrom)

I haven't bought a watch since...well, ever, I think. I still wear the Roxy watch my grandparents got me for my birthday in 8th grade and I also have a watch that once belonged to my uncle. But when I saw this beauty from Michael Kors, I just had to have it. I can't wait for it to be Fall so I
can rock this.

(Nordstrom)

And my obsession with foldover boots that started last year continues with these lovelys from Franco Sarto. Plus, they're grey, which, if you have seen my closet recently, is clearly my new favorite color. AMAZING.

And I may have dropped a hint to BestMomEver that this little gem would great look under the Christmas tree since I recently had to retire my favorite gold tote due to old age:

(Nordstrom)

So, I highly recommed hightailing it to your nearest Nordy's
before August 2nd.

Happy Shopping!

2 Weeks

Exactly two weeks, simply 14 days, until I'm in the most amazing city on Earth....

Land of Cali burritos, Grandview, Juice Stop, In N Out, and so much more!

75 and sunny, here I come!

Gross.

I'm not even going to explain why I'm posting this article. It's over a year old, but it lists the 25 laziest cities in America, based on factors of how many people exercise regularly, how many watch television during the week and what percentage of the population are obese.

Dallas, of course, made the list.

Enjoy the accompanying slideshow. I'm so glad I'm making oatmeal chocolate chip cookies right now :(

I Love Unicorns!

A group of us decided to rekindle our old tradition of Sunday night movie night and went to see Despicable Me in 3D at Northpark this weekend.

It was a great decision because this movie is HILARIOUS! I definitely recommend it for people of all ages, as our entire group of 20-somethings were in stitches. Of course, a movie with Steve Carrell as an evil villian with a funky accent and Russell Brand playing an aging, nearly deaf British doctor can only produce greatness. And the super hot 3D glasses they give you really add to the experience!

As to be expected, I believe I've already quoted my favorite line at least 10 times since seeing it (last night...).

"It's so fuzzy I'm going to DIE!!!"

Fore!

This weekend was super fun, largely because I got to spend time with tons of friends! Choctaw and I were challenged by Shufy and her visitor, Boston, to a few games at Top Golf. I hadn't ever been but had heard great things about it! It was a blast, but it became abundantly clear that dear old Dad needs to give me some proper golf lessons when I'm home in a few weeks!

A few pics:

Shufy knocked the tee out of the holder, so Boston had to fix it. Jeez girl!

The losers of the day. There will definitely be a re-match!!

So if you're in Dallas and looking for a fun group activity, definitely hit up Top Golf!

Mommy!!

I have the best mom ever. I'm not even overexaggerating. I called her yesterday morning (6:30am her time) BAWLING and she listening attentively, gave loving words of wisdom, and calmed me down enough to return to work in 6 minutes flat. The fact that she is 1,350 miles away is REALLY difficult sometimes, but thankfully modern technology makes it easy for me to call, text, email (and sometimes all three...) any time I need to.

But I'm still really excited that I found Mom In A Box.

(Thanks DailyCandy)

Not only is the product convenient and looks rather comforting, but the section of their website entitled Help I'm Bored might be the greatest way to waste time ever.

PLEASE click on one of these "ailments". However, be prepared to laugh out loud. A lot.

Let me Google that for you....

Google. Where would we be without it? Honestly, I don't want to know. But my quality of life improved dramatically today when I discovered let me Google that for you.

This website solves a common problem: people come to you and ask questions that they honestly could've figured out for themselves, but they decide they are too busy or important to research. So, they come ask you, because your time and skills aren't nearly as important or valuable. This particular question may or may not be directly related to you, your experiences or your job description, but still, they'd rather you figure it out for them.

Feel free to pass this website along the next time you find yourself frustrated by inane questions.

Wimps

I don't mean to be insensitive, but I'm really sick of hearing about the "devastating heat wave" that's taking place on the East Coast right now. I realize that temperatures above 95 degrees are unusual in the North East, but does it really warrant constant news coverage?

If temperatures topping 100 degrees, with humidity levels above 70% is really newsworthy, Texas would have to devote an entire news service strictly to the heat in the summer.

People, drink some lemonade and get out of the direct sunlight, and be thankful this is temporary for you.

'Merica's Birthday

For the 4th of July, a group of my college friends got together and went to Austin to hit up 6th street, float the river and celebrate T.Hemp's birthday!! It was also approximately the one-year anniversary of T.Hemp's wedding to one of my favorite people ever, my sorority sister Bridges. And, just like their wedding, things got a little crazy....and we all had a blast!!

I wasn't my usual exceptional paparazzi self, so the pictures are few. But considering that the river completely dominated everyone (I lost one flip flop, got sunburnt on the tops of my legs and my nose, and, of course, emerged with enough bruises to make people think I'm in an abusive relationship) the lack of photos is probably a good thing. We floated the river Saturday, then went out to the lake house Sunday. We had good weather, awesome people and plenty of booze, so it was a recipe for greatness!

The theme of the weekend was definitely "icing" (definition of "icing") and no one was safe. I never want to hear the phrase "You got iced!" ever again.

A few pics from the weekend:

And a group icing, just to top it all off.

Happy birthday America and T.Hemp, thanks for being born!!

Seriously???

Sadly, it seems as though this rumor is true and my plans to marry one Miles Austin are now dashed....

*Sigh* I really thought our time together at Dallas Cowboys training camp, our run-ins at Corner Bar and that AMAZING hug we shared at Breadwinners meant something...oh well.

Hopefully, when she drops him to go back to Reggie AGAIN, he'll remember who loved him BEFORE he was an All-Star receiver.

I'm not bitter, I swear.
