Re-Initiation

Memorial Day Weekend: the beginning of summer, a time to remember those who have given their lives for our freedom, a day off of work, the grill-master's favorite day...

The day I got the most intense, painful, awful sunburn of my life.

It started off very promising: clear blue skies, gorgeous sun. BestMomEver and I played tennis then Lee and I took little Levi on a great walk. I decided it was pool time so I went to the garage and reached for the Australian Gold SPF 30 sunscreen that BME has been buying for years. It looks like this:

Being the sun-smart, fair-colored girl that I am, I promptly went upstairs and slathered myself head to toe with sunscreen, taking care to cover often missed places such as the ears, tops of feet and along bathing suit lines. I went to the pool and took care to re-apply the sunscreen multiple times throughout the day.

When I got home, I felt a little tinge and thought "oh, I must've stayed out a little too long, I'm a bit burnt."

20 minutes later, I got out of the shower and basically what I saw in the mirror was red. Lots and lots of bright bright red alllllll over my body.

Turns out, when BME bought the Australian Gold SPF 30 sunscreen, it came with this bottle as well:

(Looks quite similar to the sunscreen, eh?)

Australian Gold Tan Extender, for AFTER sun use, to extend your new bronze glow. No SPF.

Guess what I used all day as "sunscreen".

I'm not a happy camper today.

Comparisons

A text from my co-worker in Texas this morning:
"It's raining/hailing so hard I can't get out of my car. If the mailman doesn't get out of his, I'm not getting out of mine!!"

I'll just files this under "Things I Do Not Miss"

TRX

So BestMomEver has been great about getting me to be really active ever since I got home; I originally flew in on a Saturday night and Sunday morning she had me at two different tennis clinics! Always looking for ways to keep working out interesting, she signed us up for a TRX class Saturday morning. TRX is a suspension based workout that utilizes your own body weight. Oh, and did I mention that BME has suggested I come hit tennis balls with her after her match but before TRX? No wonder one of the tennis pros at the club calls her an exercise masochist....

(I have a feeling it's going to be hard to get out of bed Sunday morning)

Smarty Pants

This weekend, I'm going to celebrate my cousin's graduation from law school.

Doesn't he look lawyer-y?

We're only going for a night, but I'll take any excuse to spend some time in the City by the Bay!

Night with the Aztecs

So last night I hung out with...

This guy:
Bill Walton

And this guy:
Marshall Faulk
Oh and he was there too:

Tony Gwynn

What do they all have in common? In addition to all having played professional sports, they all are alumni of San Diego State University. Last night I was invited to attend "A Night with the Aztecs", a charity event that raises money for SDSU sports. Our company helped sponsor the event and I got to spend a few hours rubbing elbows with legends and current SDSU athletes.
 Not a bad Monday night!

Smooth Moves

I realized why I moved to Texas….apparently, I’m not very smart in California. I thought my key into my new office didn’t work (turns out I wasn’t turning it far enough, oops). I couldn’t send a fax to our Texas office (I have to hit “1” then the number, not “9, 1”, not just the number) and this morning, was the icing on the cake.

I came in to see our CEO, CFO, a VP and a few other higher-ups all on a video conference. The conference room here is a glass room and it is to the right immediately as you walk through the main door. A few minutes ago I went out to the restroom, and I have to leave our little office suite to do so. As I came back in, I was trying to shut the door as quietly as possible and the DOOR HANDLE FELL OFF. The heavy, metal handle goes clattering to the floor and they ALL turn to look at me.

So much for flying under the radar and slowly acclimating myself!

Back Home

Well, I've been in sunny San Diego for a little more than a day and it has not disappointed: cloudless skies and a warm 80 degrees have already allowed for laying out, multiple hours of tennis, and a couple meals on the patio. I can't stop smiling. But change, even positive change, is always hard, and the reality is starting to sink in sitting at my new desk. I'm happy about the decision I've made, but I know I'll be missing Dallas soon.
